From VAS to Georgia Tech – The journey of talented alumnus Mai Xuan Khoi

Currently studying at Georgia Institute of Technology – one of the top public universities in the US – Mai Xuan Khoi previously received offers from Johns Hopkins University (No.1 in Biomedical Engineering in the US) and a full four-year scholarship from the University of Sydney, one of Australia’s most prestigious universities.
Impressive achievements of VASer Khoi:
- SAT 1580/1600 (top 1% worldwide) – IELTS 8.5 – A* in all 7 IGCSE subjects
- International Gold Medal for research on early cancer-cell detection
- Gold in Mathematics, Silver in Science at the International STEM Olympiad (Netherlands)
- Multiple science awards from the USA, Germany, Singapore, Indonesia, and Silicon Valley
But beyond numbers, Khoi stands out through projects fueled by curiosity and compassion:
- Founded a Science Research Club, leading many community-applied projects
- Founded the Zero-Cost Library, offering books to disabled and disadvantaged children
- Joined sea-turtle rescue efforts at Nui Chua National Park and planted protective trees in Dong Nai
- Served as MC, volunteer, track-and-field & swimming athlete, and member of the VAS Garden Hills Student Council
