Nguyen Khoi Minh, a 6H5 student from VAS Hoang Van Thu, was the only student from HCMC among the 17 members of the Vietnamese team at the International Junior Math Olympiad in India from July 26-30.

To be selected for the team, students had to pass two rigorous selection rounds against many top candidates from schools nationwide, followed by six weeks of training before the competition.
Meeting expectations, Khoi Minh won a silver medal in the individual competition, contributing to the Vietnamese team’s impressive achievements of 3 Golds, 6 Silvers, 6 Bronzes, and 1 Consolation Prize.

The Vietnamese team also secured 2 champion cups, 1 first place, and 2 second places in the team competition. Outperforming many math powerhouses, Vietnam ranked among the top teams this year.

The International Junior Math Olympiad is a prestigious global competition with a committee of 10 member countries overseeing 3 international math competitions: X+IMC, IMSO, and IMAS, in collaboration with educational organizations in over 30 countries. The competition rotates among host countries and is named after the host country + IMC, such as SAIMC 2019 (South Africa), IIMC 2021-2022 (Indonesia), and BIMC 2023 (Bulgaria).
In 2024, the Olympiad was held in India under the name InIMC, featuring over 600 top contestants from 30 countries. The exam questions are proposed by participating nations and chosen by an expert panel of international judges along with three judges from the host country.

Vietnam joined the X+IMC competition in 2011. In 2015, the Ministry of Education and Training officially recognized the competition and authorized Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted to form a national team for Vietnam.
In 2024, Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) was honored to be the sole representative from Ho Chi Minh City with students selected for the national team, alongside other top schools in Hanoi, including Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Newton Secondary and High School, Ngo Si Lien Secondary School (Hoan Kiem District), Nguyen Sieu Primary School, Hanoi Star Primary and Secondary School, Kim Lien Primary School, and Archimedes Academy Secondary School.
