VAS Primary Students Join Hands in “Green Detox for the Wardrobe,” Extending the Life Cycle of Thousands of Old Uniforms

On October 1, at the Ba Thang Hai campus, the Vietnam Australia International School (VAS), in collaboration with B’Lao – Scavi – Corèle Group and REshare, organized a collection event for old uniforms, unused clothing, and fashion waste under the theme “Green Detox for the Wardrobe.”

The event gathered the enthusiastic participation of more than 800 primary students. In groups, the children brought their used uniforms and other items such as clothes, shoes, backpacks, and hats from their families, neatly cleaned and packed, to drop into the prepared recycling bins. This thoughtful preparation reflected their sense of responsibility and environmental awareness.

Alongside the collection activity, VASers also took part in engaging experiences such as decorating succulent pots and joining interactive green knowledge games, helping to reinforce their understanding of sustainable fashion and eco-friendly lifestyles.

All collected uniforms and clothing will be sorted by REshare – a pioneer in collecting, circulating, and recycling used clothing – for different purposes:

  • Items still in good condition will be donated to children and families in need through charity programs.
  • Recyclable materials will be transformed into creative products such as souvenirs, decorative items, or everyday utilities.
  • Non-recyclable items will be processed in factories according to proper procedures to minimize environmental impact.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Mai Thi Thanh Ha – Deputy Head of Primary Academic Division (MOET program) at VAS – shared: “For many years, VAS has been implementing the 3Rs program (Reduce – Reuse – Recycle), encouraging students to collect old books and magazines to donate to peers in need, and to preserve uniforms so they can be passed on to younger students.”

Many parents also expressed joy in seeing their children change daily habits, such as using personal water bottles, bringing fabric bags to supermarkets, and learning how to sort old clothes for recycling.

The “Green Detox for the Wardrobe” event not only helps extend the life cycle of school uniforms but also serves as a meaningful reminder for every VASer to embrace a green lifestyle, practice responsible consumption, and take tangible actions to protect the environment.
