Ho Chi Minh City, February 14th, 2020
Regarding school closure and the leave of absence for students
till the end of February, 2020 to prevent further possible spread of the disease
The VAS Board of Management would like to express its sincere thanks to all parents and students for the great support and close cooperation with the School over the past 2 weeks to help prevention of acute respiratory infections caused by Covid-19 virus.
According to our letter dated February 6th, 2020, students of Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) were required to stay and study at home for an additional one week, from February 10th to February 16th, 2020 to help prevent the spread of the disease and were due to go back to school this forthcoming Monday, February 17th, 2020.
However, considering the continuously complicated situation of the disease, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and the Department of Education and Training of HCMC decided on Friday, February 14th that students will be required to stay home till the end of February to help prevent further possible spread of the disease. Therefore, the school will continue to be closed for the rest of February and will aim to reopen on the beginning of March on Monday, March 2nd, 2020, subject to further instructions from the Authorities.
Our teachers will therefore continue to provide the learning materials and instructions every day as they have during the last two weeks and will further supplement this with videos and online learning starting Tuesday, February 18th. During this time, we do need your support in ensuring that your children dedicate serious study time. Please ask your teachers for advice or help if you need it.
Details of the video and online learning programme will be updated to parents and students on Monday, February 17th, 2020 by the school.
In order to consolidate the students’ self-learning at home which has been supported by our teacher over the last two weeks, we will inform you of additional study and learning schedules for students once we have returned the school to full operation.
Currently, VAS is continuously taking a lot of precautions as we stated in our previous letter and furthermore implementing newly updated measures suggested by the Ministry of Health. Other school activities including mock tests for Cambridge programme, field trips and extra-curricular activities will be postponed as announced until further notice.
For the continued health and safety of all students and the community, once again, we are looking forward to receiving your understanding, support and cooperation in preventing further possible spread of the disease and in supporting your children’s self-learning at home. We will write again shortly given further information and to update any further decision from the People's Committee of HCMC and the Department of Education and Training of HCMC.
