Thirteen VAS students achieved perfect scores in Cambridge International Examinations 2018

The 2018 Cambridge International Award Ceremony at Ho Chi Minh City’s Municipal Theatre on the morning of October 21st, hosted by Vietnam Australia International School (VAS), celebrated students who achieved high scores on the exams, with more than 500 students and parents in attendance. The results from the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) showed that VAS students did very well on May and June Exams in 2018, including the primary and secondary Checkpoint exams, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams, and the AS and A Level exams. Thirteen VAS students even achieved perfect scores on every examination.

VAS students had exceptional results on Cambridge International Examinations 2018, thirteen of them achieved the perfect score.

On the IGCSE exams, 85% of VAS 10th graders scored ‘A*’ – ‘C’, 36% scored ‘A*’ – ‘A’ (excellent scores) in seven subjects, including Business Studies, Computer Science, English as a First language, English as Second language, Mathematics, Coordinated Science and Global Perspectives. The four VAS students, who scored ‘A*’s for five subjects that they study, are Vuong Cung Chinh Dan, Nguyen Le Bao Nhu, Nguyen Quoc Khanh và Huynh Ngoc Phuong Thu. For the Primary and Secondary Checkpoints, seven VAS students achieved a perfect score 6/6 in all three subjects - Mathematics, English and Science. In comparison with other Cambridge international schools in Vietnam, or the standard of the world, these results, achieved by VAS students, are what we are really proud of.

85% of VAS students in 10th grade scored ‘A*’ – ‘A’ on 7 IGCSE exam subjects.

2018 is the first year VAS students have taken the A Level exams (at the end of 12th grade) but 100% of the students scored from ‘C’ – ‘A*’ in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science. The results of all other subjects exceed the world’s average for the range from ‘C’ – ‘A*’. Luu Dinh Nam scored ‘A’s in Physics, Mathematics and Business Studies.

Patrick Colin Dooley (middle), an excellent student who scored four ‘A’s for Biology, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, the highest score of AS Level.

In AS Level exams, 100% of VAS 11th graders from Ba Thang Hai campus achieved good and excellent scores in Biology. One of them, Patrick Colin Dooley, achieved ‘A’s in Biology, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, which were the highest scores for the AS Level. On the IGCSE exam in 2017, Patrick Colin Dooley, who was named top in Vietnam, also achieved the highest score in Science. The certificates and qualifications from these exams, given by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) in Vietnam, are equal to the certificates and qualifications given in other countries around the world.

100 % VAS students in 12th grade achieved from good to excellents scores in three subjects during the first year taking A Level exams.

With the above-mentioned achievements on the AS Level and A Level exams, VAS 12th graders have been accepted and offered scholarships to top universities with leading programs around the world. One special student, Hoang Anh Thang, received a scholarship worth 16.000 USD/year for every year and will study at Cincinnati Univeristy in the US. Two other students, Ngo Quang Khai and Trinh Le Huu Bang also received scholarships worth 10.000 USD/year from The University of Illinois and The University of Chicago in the US. Many universities in the US offer courses for the first year if students achieve high results on the A Level exams. In VAS, the US and Australia are the most chosen countries, 33% each, by 12th graders who plan to study abroad; Canada, New Zealand and Singapore, 7% each; and the remaining 13% students choose to study at international universities in Viet Nam.

Cambridge International Examinations are the international standard for enrollment in top universities; 600 of which are in the US.

At the ceremony, Mr. Melvyn Lim, CAIE Country Manager for Vietnam & Myanmar, shared: “I’m truly amazed with how VAS, for the last five years, has taken a great leap forward, ever since I started to work with VAS to introduce the Cambridge Curriculum to the school’s teaching programme. Not only does the VAS Management Team run the school very smoothly, they also put more efforts to create break-through innovations during the whole process of VAS’s development all these years. It’s proven by their students’ achievements, getting better each day”.
