More than 8.500 VAS students kick off new school year with spirit "Integrity takes courage"
The school year 2018-2019 marked a new milestone for VAS with the launching of two new Mega Campuses which brings the total number of students to 20 times that of our enrollment on the first day of establishment in 2004. This is also an exciting and challenging year for 8,500 VAS students with many humanities projects following the spirit of the theme, "Integrity takes courage".
This September, VAS welcomed nearly 2,500 new students across the system for a total of 8,500 students at 8 campuses. To help all students kick off an exciting new school year and to inspire them with positive life values, VAS Executive Chairman – Mr. Marcel van Miert sent his students a touching and interesting letter. In the letter, he reminded VAS students to bravely choose honesty and integrity to live fully with their beliefs and passions at any age.
The launching of the “Letter to the Students” on the opening day of the new school year, and the "Kindness Corner", community project, or the VAS Talks 2018 series this school year aim to inspire and motivate students to become a generation who live with honesty and responsibility.
With the 4.0 technology revolution, manufacturing is becoming automated; and artificial intelligence, social media, and the shared economy are changing the job market for graduates. Today’s technology-oriented world increasingly requires adaptive inventions which are sensitive to the human condition, which also necessitate knowledge about designing and operating this new technology. Education in the current era should be built on a foundation of social science and humanities – not just STEM subjects. More than ever, the younger generation needs to learn about the value of the humanities’ and ethics to integrate technologies that affect our way of life with implications for our future.
Hence, from the very beginning, VAS has always aimed to bring comprehensive education to students; helping students to maximize their potential to succeed in the future, and become people of character with life skills.
