VAS kicks-off the environmental project, "3Rs" - Say no to plastic waste (Reduce - Reuse - Recycle)

Following the activities under the "Green School Year" theme, the 3Rs (Reduce – Reuse – Recycle) project will be officially launched by VAS from October 28, 2019 at each campus. The project aims to raise students' awareness of environmental issues, encourage the VAS community to change their living habits, actively reduce plastic waste, increase reusing and recycling.

Participating in the project, VAS students will have the opportunity to show their interest and responsibility of a global citizen for the environment, and offer innovative solutions to reduce waste and protect the green planet.

GUIDELINES FOR 3Rs PROJECT 2019 – 2020

I.    PARTICIPANTS

  • Students from grades 1 to 12 of Vietnam Australia International School

II.    PROGRAMME’S GUIDELINES

  • The programme will be implemented and supervised by each Campus.

1.    REDUCE PHASE (28.10.2019 – 15.11.2019)

Less Plastic Waste Challenge

  • Classes in the same grade will compete with each other.
  • Students in all classes need to minimize their daily plastic waste to take part in the challenge.
  • On the same day, campus representatives will randomly select 1 grade to check and weigh the amount of plastic waste consumed during the day of all classes.
  • Different grades will be randomly check on different days.
  • Expected checking timeline for campuses:
    • Week 1 (28.10.2019 – 01.11.2019): Grade 2, 3, 9, 12
    • Week 2 (04.11.2019 – 08.11.2019): Grade 1, 4, 5, 10
    • Week 3 (11.11.2019 – 15.11.2019): Grade 6, 7, 8, 11
  • Each grade will have 1 winning class with the least amount of plastic waste.

2.    REUSE PHASE (25.12.2019 – 08.01.2020)
Books Collecting Challenge

  • Classes in the same grade will compete with each other.
  • Students in all classes collect books from the last school year/ semester 1 to donate for an organization.
  • Each grade will have 01 winning class with the highest quantity of books.

3.    RECYCLE Phase (Spring Fair 2020)
Recycled Crafts Contest

  • Students form their group and come up with ideas for recycling used products, execute and display them in Spring Fair 2020.
  • Each group registers with a minimum of 3 members and a maximum of 8 members; can be grouped across levels.
  • Groups are encouraged to use recycled materials which can be collected from schools, houses and surrounding environment instead of buying new materials.
  • Campus representatives will select 3 winning groups based on following criteria:
    • Taking advantage of used materials.
    • Creativity and usefulness of recycled products.
    • Nicely designed and presented.

III.    PRIZES STRUCTURE

  • Reduce & Reuse phase: Each grade will have 1 winning class:
    • Be honored as the Green Class and gifts are given to each member at the Weekly Assembly.
    • Green Classes will be honored at the Closing Ceremony 2019 - 2020.
  • Recycle Phase: Each campus will select 3 winning groups.
    • Participating groups are honored at the Weekly Assembly. Gifts are given to 3 winning groups.
    • Winning groups will be honored at the Closing Ceremony 2019 - 2020.
