Limitless creativity with cartoon animation project
This kicked off in March, 2014 in collaboration with the Animation Department of Hong Bang International University, the project was undertaken by two teams from Hoang Van Thu (HVT) and Ba Thang Hai (BTH) campuses with 12 to 14 students per team. BTH Campus was in charge of the cartoon “When the ocean was confronted by an olive tree“ – the story about the birth of Athens in Greek mythology. HVT Campus introduced heroic traditional values through the film “The Trung Sisters”. Each film is about 3 minutes with more than 2,000 animation frames. The students received detailed guidance during the animation process of their art work not only at VAS, but also in the animation studio at Hong Bang International University.
Students participated in lessons on the concept of the animation process from preparing scripts, building characters, designing images and backgrounds were eagerly acquired by the students in charge. After completing the scripts, both teams took part in 3 learning stages comprising of hand painting, collage and graphic design in the studio and designated rooms. In the post-production stage, they continued to record dialogues and prepare subtitles with the support of specialized experts and students at Hong Bang International University.
Speaking of great learning opportunities, combining the creativity and challenge of “not only learning history and literature but also applying ICT with high team spirit,” Ms. Brittany Bynum – an ESOL specialist at VAS said: “The students highly aesthetic skills are expressed in the drawings. The fully confident interaction between VAS students and the university students shows that VAS students can learn in any environment with any teacher. I believe that the project should be expanded in the future."
