VAS and the journey to pursuing its sustainable development goal

But that was merely the starting point of VAS’s journey to pursue the sustainable development goal it had been trying to put into practice to provide an excellent educational foundation for generations of Vietnamese students.

Emphasis on the teacher

“Quality Education” is ranked fourth among the 17 Sustainable Development goals of the United Nations after “No Poverty,” “Zero Hunger,” and “Good health and Well-being.” As a pioneer in bringing high-quality education to HCMC for more than 16 years, VAS is now making changes and constant improvements to approach world-class education and advanced development of life. In this process, humanity has always been its first and foremost priority investment, especially its teaching staff.

VAS pioneers in making innovation to pursuit the sustainable development

From nearly 40 teachers from the first days, VAS now has more than 900 Vietnamese and foreign teachers who teach classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12 at seven campuses. All the teachers have Bachelor's degrees and 15% of which have a master’s degree or higher. They are role models of creative teaching at the city-level, national-level, international-level contests in Integrating Information and Communication in education, Creative lectures using STEM, Integrated Curriculum. They are also those who enhance students' learning outcomes as well as inspire and accompany them in their community projects whose pervasiveness goes beyond the school boundary such as: “Enlighten the knowledge", "Wings of dreams", "Action to stop climate change"...

To become a hub for talented Vietnamese and foreign teachers, VAS focuses on building a friendly working environment where teachers are provided with what they need to do their best in teaching career. Therefore, many teachers have dedicated to VAS for more than 16 years and are important contributors to the high quality of VAS’s educational programs.

Competitive benefits and promotion opportunities help VAS gather a team of talented and enthusiastic teachers

Focus on the student

The school year 2019-2020 was eventful to the educational sector in the world as the study of students worldwide was disrupted by Covid-19. However, VAS students still managed to finish the school year with excellent results and even exceeded the world average on the IGCSE and AS, and A Level exams of Cambridge. Forty-five VAS students earned the absolute scores (A*-A) in all subjects.

Especially, 100% of VAS 12th grade students who took part in the National Exam graduated with 92% of them achieving an average score of 7.0 or higher. The average graduation score of VAS students was 8.40, which was 15% higher than the average score of students in HCMC. This helped VAS rank sixth among the schools with the highest student performances (after Tran Dai Nghia High School, the North American International School, Le Hong Phong High School, Gifted High School and Gia Dinh High School).

VAS students achieved outstanding results in both Cambridge and MOET programmes

Having achieved AS and A Level degrees of Cambridge and/or the National Baccalaureate degree, IELTS 6.5+ certificate and Full License of International Information and Communication Technology, VAS students confidently apply for scholarships to study abroad. Last school year, more than 20 VAS students in the 12th and 9th grades received invitation letters and won scholarships worth more than US$1 million from international universities and high schools, such as the University of Amsterdam, King's College London, University College London, the University of Chicago and the  University of Sydney. Many other students won scholarships and chose to study at the best schools in Vietnam, such as the University of Medicine and Pharmacy HCMC, University of Economics HCMC and RMIT Vietnam.

These achivements are a proof of the stable and sustainable development of a long-established educational organization in a changing world.

Dedication to social responsibility

Nonetheless, modern education is not merely the grades shown on diplomas. The core value of education pursued by VAS is to train young generations to first become decent and responsible people before they achieve success in other aspects of life. This objective has been shared by tens of thousands of VAS parents over the years. Educational programs like "Seven Core Values for VAS Students,", or more recently "Green School Year" and "Sustainable Development" have enable students to contribute to environmental protection and community enhancement.

Training young generations to become good people is the core value of education at VAS

A considerable number of various learning and extracurricular projects are available at VAS so that the knowledge students acquire in the lectures become practical action, like the recycled products, green paintings and trees grown in the forests. Lessons on responsibilities of Vietnamese citizens and global citizens are given to VAS students to help them make positive changes to the environment and the natural world - VAS Talks series, VAS Green Day Run, VAS Painting Contest, 3Rs Project (Reduce - Reuse - Recycle) and VASers for the Community Programme, to name but a few.

There is still a long way to go with opportunities and challenges ahead. However, when deciding to put sustainable development at the core, VAS is confident to commit to its educational mission.

VAS is the only international school in HCMC to offer the three programs - including the full international program, the bilingual international program and the intensive English program. They are designed to meet families’ diverse needs and financial situations, as well as students’ ability. All the three programs strictly comply with Cambridge standards which are recognized worldwide.
